Gucci Ruched Leather Wave Hobo Bag

A beautifully soft vintage Gucci hobo in black leather, with a wide, almost fan-shaped silhouette and a gathered top edge that gives the whole bag its shape.
It is really about the leather, the volume and the ruching. The double handles keep the top quite neat, while the body falls much softer underneath, so it has presence without feeling like a very serious black handbag.
Styling Tip
I’d wear this with something quite clean and slightly off in proportion.
Think a grey men’s blazer, a tiny white tank, slightly too-long trousers and a pointed shoe. Or straight-leg vintage denim, a fine knit and a very small pair of sunglasses.
I also really like this kind of soft oversized black bag with something much more feminine, like a narrow skirt, sheer dress or little heel. It takes the sweetness out of the outfit a bit.
Era
Early-to-mid 2000s · likely late Tom Ford era / transition period
It sits very naturally within the quieter side of Gucci from the late Tom Ford period: soft leather, strong proportion and very little decorative hardware. Rather than relying on obvious house codes, the interest comes from the exaggerated shape and the way the leather gathers and falls.

Why It Made the Cut
Because I have a weakness for bags that are basically just a really good shape.
There is no monogram and no hardware trying to convince you it is Gucci. It is just a lot of very soft black leather gathered into this slightly exaggerated silhouette, and somehow that is enough.
I also like that it feels very early 2000s without looking like a Y2K costume. It is useful, slightly dramatic and the kind of black bag that makes an outfit better rather than just matching it.
