A beautiful Gucci New Jackie hobo from around 2009, designed during Frida Giannini’s tenure at the house. Crafted in the classic beige and brown GG canvas with heavily textured dark brown leather, gold-tone hardware and bamboo details, it’s a very good example of the more relaxed, bohemian side of late-2000s Gucci.

Giannini introduced the New Jackie for Spring 2009 as a modern reinterpretation of one of Gucci’s most recognisable archival bags. The original Jackie silhouette was made softer and more oversized, with hand-finished leather detailing, a distinctive piston-style closure and long tassels incorporating one of the house’s oldest signatures: bamboo.

This version combines several Gucci codes in one bag without feeling overly polished: monogram canvas, bamboo, aged-looking leather, oversized hand-stitching and tassels. It also comes with a detachable longer shoulder strap, so it can be worn either tucked under the arm or lower on the body.

Condition
Great pre-owned condition with plenty of character. The GG canvas as well as the structured leather canvas presents beautifully overall without damage. The dark brown leather was originally designed with a deliberately distressed, aged finish, giving the bag its characteristic variation in colour and texture.

The leather detailing and tassels remain intact, and the interior presents well with some light age-related marks. Please refer closely to the images for the full condition.

Styling
I’d wear this quite casually. A grey cashmere knit, faded denim and a loafer, or with an oversized coat and something very simple underneath. It’s already got a lot going on between the monogram, bamboo and distressed leather, so I wouldn’t try to make it too polished.

Why it made the cut
The New Jackie takes a very classic Gucci shape and makes it softer, bigger and slightly more undone. I especially love this version because the dark, worn-in leather against the GG canvas gives it much more personality than a pristine monogram bag.
