A vintage Gucci tote in deep chocolate brown suede, finished with dark brown leather side panels, gold-tone hardware and double natural bamboo handles.
This is one of those bags where the materials do most of the work. The suede gives the otherwise quite structured shape a much softer feeling, while the bamboo handles make it unmistakably Gucci without needing any visible logo on the outside.
I especially like the slightly boxy proportions here. It feels polished, but not prim.
Styling Tip
I’d probably wear this in the least “lady bag” way possible.
With faded men’s jeans, a white tank and a big coat. Or with a long black skirt, tiny knit and flat sandals. I also really like chocolate suede with grey, especially a slightly too-big grey trouser and something very simple on top.
Era
1990s Gucci · Tom Ford-era context
Bamboo had already been part of Gucci’s handbag language for decades by the 1990s, but this period gave the material a particularly strong fashion identity. Princess Diana was repeatedly photographed carrying Gucci bamboo-handled totes in suede during the decade, helping cement the combination of bamboo, suede and a practical shopper shape as one of the house’s most recognisable signatures of the period.

Condition
Good vintage condition with visible signs of previous wear consistent with age.
The suede shows rubbing, tonal variation and some flattening to the nap throughout. There are also some lighter marks and areas of surface wear. The leather side panels and base remain in good overall condition. The interior appears clean. There is a slight vintage smell noticeable.
Why It Made the Cut
Because this is very classic Gucci, but not in the obvious way. The bamboo handles are instantly recognisable, but the chocolate suede makes the whole thing feel much softer and less polished than the more structured leather versions.
I also really like the size and shape. It feels substantial enough to actually use, but the bamboo keeps it from turning into just another brown tote.
And brown suede + bamboo is simply a very good combination. Slightly 90s, slightly weird, and somehow still incredibly easy.
