A vintage Gucci baguette in tonal black GG canvas, finished with smooth black leather.
I really like how quiet the monogram is on this one. From a distance it almost just reads as a black shoulder bag, and then the GG pattern appears when the light hits it. The long east-west shape sits neatly under the arm, while the wide leather strap and slightly exaggerated side attachments give it that very specific early-2000s proportion.
Styling Tip
I’d probably resist making this too Y2K.
Wear it with a men’s white shirt, black capri trousers and a tiny heel, or with a slightly oversized blazer, washed-out jeans and an old leather belt. I also love a bag like this with something very clean and long. A column skirt, simple tank and flat sandal because the little baguette shape suddenly feels much less nostalgic. And obviously it is very good with all black. Just maybe not with low-rise jeans, a rhinestone belt and tinted sunglasses all at once. One reference is enough.
Era
Late 1990s to early 2000s · Tom Ford era
This bag belongs to the period when Tom Ford was creative director of Gucci. Ford’s Gucci is usually remembered for the overt glamour of the runway, but a lot of the accessories from the period were much more restrained: slim proportions, dark leather, minimal hardware and established house codes used in a cleaner, more modern way.
The tonal black GG canvas feels especially good here. Rather than making the monogram the whole point of the bag, it almost disappears into the surface, leaving the long underarm silhouette and leather details to do most of the work.

Why It Made the Cut
Because I love a logo bag that somehow does not really look like a logo bag.
The black-on-black GG canvas is so much quieter than the classic beige version, and paired with that long, slightly awkward early-2000s shape it feels super cool.
It is also just incredibly easy. Small enough to sit properly under the arm, big enough to actually carry things, and black enough to work with basically everything. The kind of bag you would probably end up reaching for far more than originally intended.
