One of my favourite versions of a Chanel flap because it feels considerably less Chanel handbag than the Classic Flap. No big CC closure, no leather woven through the chain, just black aged calfskin, silver-toned hardware and that very good rectangular Mademoiselle lock.
This is the 2.55 in size 226, crafted from intentionally distressed black calfskin with an all-metal chain and aged silver/ruthenium-tone hardware. The leather is meant to look slightly crinkled and lived-in from the start, which somehow makes this one feel much easier to actually wear rather than keep on a shelf.
The 2.55 itself goes back to 1955, when Gabrielle Chanel introduced the quilted shoulder bag with a chain strap. Q uite a radical idea at the time, as it allowed women to carry a handbag while keeping their hands free. In 2005, Karl Lagerfeld brought the original design back for its 50th anniversary; that edition became known as the 2.55 Reissue, and the name has since become widely used for later versions following the same original design language.
What makes it different from the more recognisable Classic Flap is exactly what I like about it: the clean rectangular Mademoiselle turnlock, the entirely metal chain and the slightly more understated overall feel.
How I’d wear it
Probably with something that has absolutely no intention of looking “ladylike”: oversized men’s tailoring, an old white tee, worn-in denim, a very long coat. Or with a tiny skirt and something slightly wrong on the feet. It already brings enough polish by itself.

Condition
Pre-owned vintage condition. The calfskin has the intentionally crinkled, aged finish characteristic of this model, alongside genuine light signs of previous wear including some softening and creasing. Some light vintage smell present. Please refer closely to the images for condition.
Why it made the cut
Because it’s Chanel for people who maybe don’t want their Chanel to scream Chanel. Same history, same beautiful construction, considerably less obvious.
